To record remotely into an album over a Generational Story conference call, the owner or one of the contributors will need to login into their account, select the album to be recorded into, and navigate to the ‘video call’ tab.
The second person in the call must also join through the same ‘video call’ tab. To do this they may either:
1. Login as the owner or contributor and similarly navigate to the album’s ‘video call’ tab
2. Click a link sent to them from the other person already in the portal or on the call.
Invite to Video Call: A direct link to the portal can be sent to anyone. You do not need an account on Generational Story to be invited to join and record over a video conference call. However, invitations can only be sent by a person that is logged in.
An invite is sent to another person by either clicking “copy link’ and sending that link to another person. A ‘copy link’ option appears in both the ‘video call’ portal and within the video call.
Joining the call: From the ‘video call’ portal, you must decide to join as the interviewer or respondent. If you wish, you can change rolls while you are in the call when you are not recording.
Interviewer: The interviewer sees all the questions in the queue. Once both an interviewer and respondent join the call, the interviewer has the option to select any question in the queue or go off script with a custom question. The interviewer will then click start record to begin recording and stop record when finished with a topic. If the interviewer does not explicitly delete the recording, the clip will automatically be saved in the album. The interviewer may let the software advance to the next question or skip to another subject. Only the audio of the interviewer will be saved on the clip.
Respondent: The respondent will have a visual and audio cue when a recording starts and stops. Both the video and audio of the respondent are saved to the clip.Ending the call will take both parties directly to the album to view all saved clips labeled by topic.
